Leicester tattooist James Hurst is the owner and chief artist of Soul Creation Tattoo Studio that is based on the top floor at Homme &Co. James is coming up to his third year here now and he has taken on many different styles and projects. James is well known for his custom approach to tattooing and enjoys all styles of tattooing, but has a significant interest in black and grey artwork, Japanese and new school styles.
James has always liked working with colour inks, but over the past years has focused on black and grey work, which has made him a well-rounded artist for all styles. Most of James time is spent working on large tattoo pieces for clients.
When it comes to design ideas, James likes working with clients to create one-off pieces specifically designed for each person and also custom designing for cover up work. On average his waiting list is around 2-3 months.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A TATTOOIST?
I’ve been tattooing part time for 6 Years and full time for 4 Years.
WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A TATTOOIST?
I’ve always drawn art as far back as I can remember, and with my dad being heavily tattooed, I always had a fascination with that artwork. I decided that tattooing was the route I wanted to take when I was about 12 Years old.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE TATTOOIST OF ALL TIME?
There’re so many good tattoo artists out there to choose from, but if I had to choose just one, then it would be Timmy B. His works super smooth.
WHO IS YOUR CELEBRITY TATTOOED ICON?
I do not follow the celebrities that much, but I would have to say Travis Barker. (Travis is an American musician and producer, most noted as the drummer for the American rock band Blink-182)
